What ever happened to the young american guy who was being held in Sri Lanka to be flogged for a crime he did?

I think it was Sri Lanka or Fiji or somewhere like that. He was an Aerican citizen and he did something their government didn't like. He was being held over there and as punishment for his crime, they were going to flog him like they did back in the day. This was years ago, at least about 6 or 7? Anyone remember that, it was on the news a lot back then? I think his first name was Daniel or something like that.
