What are your views on the fairness (light skinned) obsession in India?

Well, first I was going to say, that it's up to them and that the article cites a good comparison - the self-tanning obsession many girls have in America... and also the fact that many Black and Latina girls did it in America too... but at the end, the article says it gives you Mercury poisoning - WTF is up with that?! They can't make a safe product?? That's bullsh!t. I also wonder why light skin is so in in India and amongst certain people in America. Healthy skin looks good in ALMOST any color.
